Waters rise like a night fever.
The farm shakes in the ashen dark.
Into the swirling flood she waded
Brave as barbed wire, wearing
her dreams like a shredded gown,
lungs swollen, she wept as the moon
stood over them like a judge.
The black beast rose from the water
as if resurrected by tragedy.
